Connecting Expedia with Sympl

Using Expedia's API connection with Sympl requires that you contact Expedia to request permission for using Tokeet as your channel manager (outlined below). Other than that, you'll find the process to be virtually the same as other API connections. Make note of any limitations in data being transferred over the initial connection (such as initial calendar events/bookings, message history, etc).

1. In Expedia Partner Central

  1. Navigate to Rooms & Rates.

  2. Click Connectivity Settings.

  3. Select Tokeet for both Rates & Availability and Reservations.

  4. Save changes.

  5. While you are in Expedia Partner Central, make sure you copy your Hotel ID number from within the dashboard (ex. "ID: 825923").

Alternatively, you can send a message via the Contact Us form in Expedia PartnerCentral, requesting that Tokeet be designated as your channel manager. Be sure to include your Expedia Hotel ID in your request.

2. In Sympl

Before proceeding, ensure that rental rates are defined for your properties in Sympl, as you will need to push rates to Expedia during the setup process.

  1. Access the Channels Module

    • Navigate to the Channels module from the top menu bar.

  2. Add Expedia as a Channel

    • In the Channels List view, click the + Add Channel button.

    • This will open the Channels Overlay, where you can select Expedia and click Connect.

    If no existing Expedia connections exist, you will see a Connect button; otherwise, you will see a + option.

  3. Complete the Connection Wizard

    • Follow the steps in the Connection Wizard and enter your Expedia Property ID.

    • Click Connect, and Sympl will import all rooms under this Property ID.

  4. Link Rentals

    • Click into each imported room and link it to the corresponding Sympl Rental. Click Next.

  5. Import Bookings

    • On the Import Bookings step, click Import to sync your Expedia calendar with Sympl.

  6. Push Availability

    • This step updates Expedia with your Sympl calendar availability.

  7. Push Rates

    • If you have not yet created rates for the linked rental, click on Add Standard Rate or Add Dynamic Rate to do so. If you already have rates or the rental, click Next.

    • Click Push Rates to send the rates in Sympl to your Expedia property

    • This requires choosing the Sympl Rate category and Expedia Rate category that you want synced.

    Note: changes in availability are instantly sent to your connected channels; however, rates need to be pushed by using the “push rate” option. This setup allows you to control when rates are sent to API channels, ensuring that updates are only pushed when you're ready.

  8. Finalizing Availability Sync

    • From the Actions button, click Push Availability to publish your updated Sympl calendar to Expedia.

Your Expedia connection is now active! Repeat this process for each Expedia connection you need to establish.

Troubleshooting Tip: If you experience issues pushing availability, try adding a temporary Hold event with a Confirmed status to your rental. Once the connection is complete, you can remove the Hold event. Learn more about Hold Events here.

Virtual Cards

To accept virtual cards, your Stripe account MCC (Merchant Category Code) must be set to 7011.

Since connected accounts are "Standard" accounts, you will need to reach out to Stripe Support to update your MCC. If you encounter issues after updating, please contact Stripe directly for assistance.

How to Disconnect from Expedia

  1. Navigate to the Channels section in Sympl.

  2. Click Expedia in the left navigation panel.

  3. Click the Disconnect button.

  4. Enter the Accommodation ID you wish to disconnect.

  5. The disconnection process is now complete.
