Paypal is a popular multi-currency payment gateway which includes a free service called Paypal Standard and a premium service called PayPal Payments Pro.
PayPal is a truly global payments platform that is available to people in 203 markets, allowing customers to get paid in more than 100 currencies, withdraw funds to their bank accounts in 57 currencies, and hold balances in their PayPal accounts in 26 currencies.
PayPal Standard
Paypal Standard is perhaps the quickest way to start accepting credit card payments for your bookings and reservations with Sympl.
Unlike most payment processors, Paypal Standard for business requires no setup fees, no subscription fees, and no lengthy approval process. It does however, require that users process transactions through the Paypal payment interface.
This means that when it comes time to make a payment, your customer will be redirected from Sympl to PayPal and then back again once the transaction is complete. As such, PayPal does not allow you to process credit cards on behalf of your customers in the Sympl dashboard area. Payments can only be made via the customer-facing invoice.
PayPal Payments Pro
Paypal Payments Pro is a robust payment processing system capable of meeting most business processing needs. Unlike Paypal Standard, you have full control over the checkout process, including a fully branded and integrated payment page through Sympl. When completing transactions through PayPal Payments Pro, the customer does not leave the Sympl interface and can process their payments seamlessly and professionally.
Paypal Payments Pro does allow you to process payments on behalf of your customers in the Sympl dashboard area by using the button when viewing an invoice. This is great for walk-ins and over-the-phone bookings.
Paypal Payments Pro requires an additional monthly subscription fee which is billed by Paypal. You can apply for an account through the PayPal interface.
